The Best Senior Portrait Locations in Nashville and Middle Tennessee
Senior portrait locations come in waves. A few years ago, it felt like nearly every senior I photographed wanted Main Street in Downtown Franklin. This year has been all about the flower farms. The classics never really leave, though, and that is one of my favorite things about photographing seniors here. Middle Tennessee gives us city streets, rolling farmland, riverbanks, formal gardens, and skyline views, often within a short drive of each other.
Here are the locations I keep coming back to, what makes each one special, and what to know before you fall in love with one.
Flower Farms
South 40 Farm, Franklin

South 40 sits south of Franklin off Lewisburg Pike, and it has been the star of this year. Row after row of blooms creates a soft, romantic backdrop that feels both dreamy and timeless.
The farm keeps a bloom calendar on its website, so you can see exactly which flowers are blooming and when. June and July are always the best, which lines up beautifully with senior portraits taken the summer before senior year.
South 40 requires a reservation fee, paid separately from your portrait experience.
A Rising Favorite
Smith Park, Brentwood

Smith Park has become a go-to for my seniors recently, and it is easy to see why. The historic Ravenswood Mansion, built in 1825, sits on 400 acres of rolling hills, open fields, and wooded trails, so you get classic Southern elegance and natural landscapes in one place.
The park is open dawn until dusk. When the mansion hosts a private event, the areas right around the house are closed to photography, so I check the event calendar while we plan.
The Classics
Cheekwood Estate and Gardens
Cheekwood is a favorite for a reason. Formal gardens, stone paths, and the historic estate give your portraits an elegant, polished feel that never goes out of style.
Cheekwood also requires a reservation fee, paid separately from your portrait experience. Portrait reservations are booked through Cheekwood, and the gardens are closed on Mondays, so we plan around that together.
Main Street, Downtown Franklin

Often called America's favorite Main Street, Downtown Franklin has true Hallmark movie charm. Historic storefronts, brick sidewalks, and the glowing Franklin Theatre marquee create portraits that feel warm, timeless, and full of hometown character. It is a location seniors and their families love year after year.
Metro Nashville Parks
I hold a permit for all Metro Nashville parks, so when you choose one of these locations, that piece is already handled.
Warner Parks

With more than 3,000 acres of rolling hills, woods, and historic stonework, Warner Parks gives us a completely different look around every bend. These are the areas I return to most:
Beyond the Percy Warner steps: The Belle Meade entrance, with its sandstone gates and cascade of limestone steps from the 1930s, is iconic on its own. My favorite spots start just beyond the steps, where wooded paths and stone details create natural, timeless portraits.
The Steeplechase: Home of the Iroquois Steeplechase, these wide, rolling fields and the hillside overlook give you sweeping open space that feels like the Tennessee countryside without leaving Nashville.
The Little Harpeth River: Winding through Edwin Warner Park, the river adds a peaceful, creekside setting with soft greenery and water in the background.
The Deep Well entrance: Historic stone gates and mossy stone walls, built by the WPA in the 1930s and 1940s, bring texture and old-world character to every portrait.
Warner Parks is the perfect fit for seniors who love the outdoors and want variety in one location.
Wasioto Park

For the best view of the Nashville skyline behind you, Wasioto Park is the spot. Formerly known as Cumberland Park, it sits on the east bank of the Cumberland River, with the downtown towers framed perfectly across the water. It is the portrait that says Nashville at a glance, and one families love to frame for graduation.
Wasioto Park also gives you a completely different look just steps away. Underneath the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, steel trusses, concrete, and strong architectural lines create an urban, editorial feel. It is perfect for bold outfits, confident posing, and portraits with a fashion-forward edge.
Skyline views and city edge in one location make Wasioto Park one of the most versatile stops in Nashville.
Shelby Bottoms

Shelby Bottoms gives you natural beauty and industrial elements in one place, right on the Cumberland River. It is a great choice for seniors who want variety without a lot of driving:
The river: The boat launch lets us get right down to the water's edge for portraits with the Cumberland behind you.
The greenway and walking paths: The greenway follows the river, and winding walking paths through the trees and open fields give us soft, natural backdrops at every turn.
The railroad: Of course, the railroad brings strong lines, steel, and industrial texture for portraits with a little edge.
The pond: Calm water and reflections add a peaceful, quiet look that feels miles away from the city.
A Hidden Gem
Ellington Agricultural Center
Tucked into Crieve Hall, Ellington Agricultural Center is one of Nashville's best-kept secrets. It offers a surprising range of looks in one quiet, pastoral setting of rolling Tennessee hills, all close to town:
The manicured grounds: The polished lawns and landscaped spaces around the historic house create elegant, classic portraits.
The horse barn and fences: Weathered wood, barn doors, and long fence lines bring a relaxed, Tennessee farm feel.
The creek and hiking paths: Shaded trails and a winding creek give you natural, peaceful portraits that feel far removed from the city.
Few locations let you move from refined to rustic to woodland in a single portrait experience, which is exactly why Ellington is one of my favorite hidden gems.
Downtown Nashville

Downtown Nashville has so many great locations it is hard to list them all, but these are the ones I return to again and again:
Printers Alley: Neon signs and brick walls for portraits with a moody, editorial edge.
War Memorial Plaza: Classic architecture and clean lines (when it is not under construction).
Public Square Park: Open space and a striking view of the Historic Metro Courthouse.
Walk of Fame Park: Green space with a true Music City feel, right in the heart of downtown.
Pro Tip: Go Early
For locations without set hours, like the Metro Nashville parks, Smith Park, downtown Nashville, and Main Street in Franklin, a sunrise or morning portrait experience means a much less crowded location. You have the space nearly to yourself, the light is soft and flattering, and the whole experience feels calmer and more relaxed.
Can We Use More Than One Location?
Yes. Some portrait experiences include multiple locations when they are close together. Downtown Nashville and Shelby Bottoms pair especially well, giving you polished city portraits and natural riverside portraits in the same afternoon.
How We Choose Your Location Together
The right location should feel like you. Before your portrait experience, we meet together to plan everything out: your location, your outfits, and the feel you want your portraits to have. By the time you step in front of my camera, every detail has been thought through, so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
Ready to Plan Your Senior Portraits?
Every location on this list is a beautiful backdrop, but the location is only one part of the story. The portraits that end up on your walls come from everything around it: thoughtful planning, styling, guidance in front of my camera, and artwork designed to celebrate who your senior is right now.
That is exactly what my Iconic senior portrait experience was created for. Iconic is limited to 20 seniors each year, with portraits created the summer before senior year, and it guides you from our first planning meeting all the way to finished artwork for your home.
